![]() Toddy PalmToddy palm is a common name for several species of palms used to produce palm wine, palm sugar and jaggery. The staple and most versatile crop of Phetchaburi makes a delicate sweet soufflé. The deep-yellow flesh of the mellow fruit, mashed and left to ferment a natural yeast, gives rise and a distinct aroma to this toddy palm dessert. A must-try while in Thailand! | ![]() Yee Peng Floating Lantern FestivalDuring Loy Krathong, which literally translates to "floating basket," locals pray and make a wish as they launch their handmade floats made of banana leaf and flowers (or bread), into the river. This happens around the same time as The Yee Peng Floating Lantern Festival. It involves the ceremonial release of rice paper lanterns into the night sky. It symbolizes the important Buddhist practice of merit-making. It's also really pretty. | ![]() Glowing ChamberThis glowing chamber can be found in the Pha Thai Cave at the Tham Pha Thai National Park in Lampang. Lining the hall in cascades are alluring stalagmites and stalactites, naturally making thousands of decorative formations. Rumor has it that this very cave was graced with the royal visit of King Rama V back in 1926! Many people have expressed their interests in exploring a cave at least once in their lifetime. If you're one of these people, Tham Pha Thai is the place for you! |

This odd fruit is like truffles to the French and most durians are larger than an adult's head -- covered with very sharp spikes about an inch long. BEWARE! This creamy, sweet fruit does have a dangerous side! The sulphur-rich chemical that gives the fruit its foul odor, also reacts strongly with alcohol. The reaction between these two can lead to death if too much of either is consumed. |
